Registration Information

The GE office added seats to the courses listed below during the continuing student registration period.  The remaining seats in these courses will be released to students attending orientations in June, July and August. Unoccupied seats in these courses will become available on Thursday, August 14th at starting at noon.  Students seeking to enroll in a GE course not listed here should contact the department offering the course regarding their registration policy.

  • JS 100, 180 and 211

  • LING 115

  • PHIL 174, 176 and 178

  • POSC 100, 130, 248 and 265

  • SWMS 210, 215 and 219

Rising sophomores who need to register for a GESM will need to obtain d-clearance from the GE office by emailing [email protected].  The email needs to include the USC student ID number, the registration appointment date and the five-digit section numbers for the preferred three classes.  The GE office will respond to requests within one business day prior to the registration appointment date.  If the GESM section needs to be changed after fall semester registration occurs, the student will need to contact us so we can provide a new d-clearance for another section.

Students who will be juniors or seniors in Fall 2025 and need to register for a GESM will also need to obtain a d-clearance from the GE office. Since GESM is designed for freshmen, upperclassmen will be allowed to register for a GESM after all freshmen attend orientation. Requests for GESM registration by upperclassmen should be sent to [email protected] starting on Monday, July 14th.

Requests for GESM registration will only be granted if a seat is available as noted on Web Registration.

Freshmen may not take WRIT 150 and a GESM simultaneously during fall semester.  In the spring semester, freshmen may take both if needed.  Sophomores who have not completed WRIT 150 and GESM may take both courses concurrently in any semester.  Students seeking to register for a WRIT 150 section during the first three weeks of the semester should consult the Writing Program’s registration policy.  Questions regarding WRIT 150 may be addressed to the Writing Program at [email protected].
